Work Bee

On May 12th, Woodsworth House was “abuzz” with activity, as volunteers came out to help with the Spring Work Bee.  Thanks to everyone who lent a hand in sprucing up the CCS exterior: Jim Hatherly, Lynda Trono, John Drewitt, Liz Janzen-Drewitt, and Liz Bachmann.  They poured 2 yards of soil around the building foundation, painted the front fence, and pruned bushes.

Prairie Mosaic: Intercultural Ministry Event in Saskatchewan

This isn’t a CCS event, but it looks like something our students and community might appreciate

Prairie Mosaic: An Intercultural Ministry Event
When: June 6, 2012 – June 7, 2012
Where: Grosvenor Park United Church, Saskatoon, SK
Cost: $60 by April 15; $75 after April 15; $45 for youth and underemployed (includes Wednesday supper, Thursday lunch, light refreshments throughout)

Come and deepen your exploration of what “intercultural” might mean for the church! Recognizing that “intercultural” means much more than ethnicity, this regional intercultural event will explore many degrees of difference.

Prairie Mosaic takes place just before the Saskatchewan Conference AGM, in Saskatoon. Workshop themes will include affirming ministry, truth and reconciliation, intercultural church experiences and racial justice. Joseph Naytowhow is joining us as guest artist, and course credit is available through St. Andrew’s College, Saskatoon.

Affirm United AGM – Coming Out of Exile

Our friends at Affirm United asked us to help spread the word about their annual general meeting this August in Montreal…

We invite members, guests, and friends to a celebration that includes speakers, workshops, worship, community time, and warm Québec-style hospitality. The 2012 Annual General Meeting will take place the morning of Monday, August 6, at Beaconsfield United Church.
Conference Theme
Coming Out of Exile recalls the experiences of LGBTQ Christians and allies as “strangers in a strange land,” exiled from our family and friends, our faith, and even from ourselves. Despite its pain, exile has been a time rich with creativity and spirituality. In exile, we have learned resilience. As we come out of exile, God calls us to new places. We ally ourselves with brothers and sisters everywhere who still live in exile. We challenge exclusion and injustice. We continue to engage in courageous conversations with one another across differences.

Theme speakers will be Donald L. Boisvert, PhD, and Rev. Dr. Ofelia Ortega.

Annual Service of Celebration 2012 – the videos

It was a joyous weekend at the Centre for Christian Studies – with the banquet on Saturday night and the Annual Service of Celebration on Sunday afternoon.

CCS Annual Service of Celebration at St. George's Anglican in Wpg

Five students graduated, and two of the three Companions of the Centre for 2012 were honoured.  Many students from the Pastoral Care theme year learning circle were present, as well as many Central Council members from across Canada who were in town for the yearly face-to-face meeting.  Thank you to everyone who played a part in making the weekend a meaningful time.

If you wished you’d been here but weren’t able, here is the bulletin for the worship service.  If you’d rather listen, here is an MP3 (17M) of the service.  (The piano and the congregation weren’t miked, so the music is not as impressive as it was in person.)

And below are some video clips…
